The Salvation Army launched its familiar holiday fund drive yesterday with a “Red Kettle Kickoff” Luncheon at the Inn at Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach.
More than 300 guests took part in a simple, symbolic, lunch of soup and salad. The group then celebrated the start of the 6-week-long fundraising effort by furiously filling the Red Kettles at each of the 35 tables and followed it with bidding on auction items. Erin Clark and Dan Green of KSBW News were the masters of ceremonies. Corps Sergeant Major Rick Leidsen was the featured speaker.
Preliminary results indicate a successful fundraising event breaking last year’s record.
The Salvation Army Monterey Peninsula Corps serves the coastal area of Monterey County and the funds raised during this season will help OTHERS during the holidays and throughout the year.
