Still interested in helping a family provide toys to their children this Christmas? We’re wrapping up our Angel Tag program, however we still need toys! The list below outlines some of our most popular gift requests this season and can be picked up locally at Target or Wal-Mart. Toys can be dropped off at our main office at 1491 Contra Costa St, Seaside, CA. One of our biggest needs is toys for the 10-12 age group.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Toy Drive

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca announced today that it will be hosting a Toy Drive to benefit the Monterey Peninsula Salvation Army. As an extra incentive to donate, all donors who bring a new, unwrapped toy for a child up to the age of 12 will receive a free ticket to the Sunday of the Monterey Sports Car Championships, featuring the American Le Mans Series, May 23, 2010.

“The underlying philosophy of SCRAMP is to donate to the local community,” said Ken Lofink, president, SCRAMP. “The Holiday Toy Drive is yet another terrific example of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca working with a charity, The Salvation Army, to help those in need during the holiday season.”

The Toy Drive starts on November 11 and ends December 14, 2009. Donors can bring their unwrapped toys to the Souvenir Store, which is located in the paddock, next to the Skip Barber Racing School classroom.

Special Requests

It’s almost Thanksgiving and The Salvation Army is hard at work “Doing the Most Good” that we can, which comes only through the support of our generous community. This year has been a tough year for everyone and our requests for assistance have increased from last year. Below is a list of items that are in great demand or are some of the more popular food, clothing and toy request that we are receiving. As usual, you can always requests Angel Tags, Adopt-A-Family or host a food or toy drive, but if you would like to target specific needs, this list may come in handy.

Turkeys (frozen)–deliver to 800 Scott Street, Sand City (MAP)
New Blankets for Seniors: Request for services from Seniors is up 40% this year.
New Childrens’ clothing & Jackets (Ages 0-12 years): approximately 35%-40% of all requests this year are for clothing instead of toys.
New Bikes/Trikes: We always have hundreds of bike requests each year and can only fill about 12% of those. You can donate a new bike or purchase a gift card to use toward the purchase of new bikes.
Other popular toy items (new): Princess Barbies, Spiderman & Transformer Action Figures, CD players, art sets, educational toys, Dora the Explorer (and Diego), High School Musical toys,Â dolls, boardgames, soccer balls (and other sports), and books!

The Salvation Army is still looking for sponsors for our Toy Drive. The need is greater than ever this year to provide assistance to families on the Monterey Peninsula and we need your help to assist those families this Christmas. Adopting a family or sponosoring Angel Tags is one of the many ways you can help.
